The concept of mineral pools might sound new, but they have been around for thousands of years in the forms of natural springs, lakes, and other mineral-dense water bodies. The popularity of mineral pools has increased over the last few years due to the health and wellness benefits they offer. For those of you that are not very familiar with mineral pools, a “Mineral Pool” is a generic term used for various products on the market, and it can be anything that isn’t a traditional saltwater swimming pool (100% sodium chloride). Technically, any mineral pool is a pool that uses a combination of different minerals (and may contain added salt/sodium) to create a more comfortable feel in the water.
Compared to your traditional saltwater pools that generate chlorine from the salt in the water (yes, saltwater pool systems contain chlorine), mineral pools use the minerals/salts in the blend to generate chlorine using the same process of electrolysis.
To put it simply, whilst the water clarity of saltwater and mineral systems is similar, the water quality and bather comfort of some mineral pools are far superior because of a reduction in chemical use and health properties of the minerals used.
