If you are renting a property that has a spa, plunge pool or pool it is very important to check the safety of the spa or pool area.
Make sure that your landlord has installed and maintained a pool fence and gate that meets the Australian Standards. As a tenant you are required to ensure that the pool fence is maintained and operating correctly while you are renting the property.
Ensure you contact your landlord or agent for urgent repairs if:
– The pool gate is faulty or become damaged
– The fences are faulty or become damaged
– The gate or fence has become unsafe or unsecure
– You believe a child may be able to gain access without supervision

To avoid a fine of $5,000 or more, as well as ensuring the safety of tenants, neighbours and visitors ensure your fence complies with the Safety Barrier laws in Victoria.
KidSafe recommend landlords ensure their agents conduct regular checks of pool fencing and gates, as well as providing tenants with pool safety checklists.
