pH– Why do we test for this component?
As spa owners we know to test for Chlorine, pH and Alkalinity. The sanitiser kills the bugs but why is pH in the Spa water important to?
pH is the measurement of how acidic or basic your spa water is. pH needs to be in the OK range, otherwise your spa equipment such as heater elements, pump seals and internal surfaces are at risk of potential damage.
A high pH reading can result in:
Poor efficiency and effectiveness of sanitiser, cloudy spa water, stain and scale, skin and eye irritations and shorter spa filter life.
A low pH reading can result in:
Poor efficiency and effectiveness of sanitiser, corrosion of equipment, skin irritations and reduction in Total Alkalinity.
